2010 B C GOLDEN GLOVES - expected location Victoria, B C, Canada...
The early announcement is the 70 th. B C Golden Gloves will take place in Victoria, BC in April 2010.
The tournament will be hosted by the CAPITAL CITY BOXING CLUB which has been in operation for a couple of years,
and sanctioned by the BRITISH COLUMBIA AMATEUR BOXING ASSOCIATION - BOXING BC.
Of importance to Greater Victoria this will marl 50 years since boxer ALAN CURTIS was named BC GOLDEN BOY in the
1960 BC Golden Gloves. Also, it will mark 30 years since the BC Diamond Belt Tournament was revived in 1980
and hosted by the VICTORIA JAYCEES BOXING CLUB and supported by the VICTORIA ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION.
It will also mark 10 years since Victoria boxer DONNIE ORR was selected to join the Canadian Boxing Team
in the 2000 OLYMPIC GAMES.
Over the decades since 1939, there have been many interesting tournaments, and each year the highest award is the Golden Boy award of which some have been earned by excellent boxers from the south such as Portland's RAY LAMPKIN (1968) and
Seattle's NEIL KNIGHT (1969), There have ben dual winners such as Vancouver's DICK FINDLAY and in Junior Golden Gloves
triple winners such as Victoria's CLIFF BALLENDINE
