BC GOLDEN GLOVES, 1980 to 1989: by brian zelley
The year 1980 would be part of an excellent decade
in the history of the British Columbia Amateur Boxing
Association's Golden Gloves tournaments from the
Junior Golden gloves with the likes of CLIFF BALLENDINE
and the Youth and Senior boxers Golden Gloves action with
the first true star being JAMIE OLLENBERGER.
Jamie would follow the Golden Glove boxers of the
Seventies from the likes of Freddy Fuller, Frank Scott,
Gordie Lawson, Buzz Montour, Derrick Hoyt, Wayne Crowe,
"Dynamite" Dan Wright, David Ius, and many others.
Throughout the Eighties there would be many Golden Gloves
alumni - boxers, coaches and officials any many volunteers
including the Golden Boys such as RON PASKIE and
GLEN QUOCKSISTER.
1984 BC JUNIOR GOLDEN GLOVES
The 1984 BC Junior Golden Gloves took place on
April 28th. at the Boxing BC Training Centre in
Burnaby.
